pinterest: bedroom inspiration

My master bedroom is one of the rooms in my house that I’ve done next-to-nothing with as far as updates and decorating. I have had very little inspiration and no direction for what I want to do with the space. It’s a large room… which is almost worse than a small room!

Enter my new addiction: Pinterest.

Have you discovered its awesomeness yet? Sara introduced me and now I can’t get enough. It’s a site/service that allows you to “pin” images to your “boards”… people can follow you and you can follow others. If you like what someone else pins, you can re-pin it to save it to one of your own boards. When you sign up they give you a set of boards, but you can also create your own. For example, I have one for my Bedroom Ideas, DIY things to try, and inspiration for my Outdoor Spaces, among others. You can also search for other images… which is what I decided to do to find inspiration for making my bedroom into my haven.

This is a glimpse of what I’m working with (on move-in day):

I decided a window seat would be awesome under my big window, with built-in book shelves on either side. (I’ve always wanted a reading area/library and this might be the closest I’ll get!)

So I did a little searching…

Love it.

But I was still completely lost for colors. Plus, I have a chair rail… should I leave it? Or add some bead board or board and batten?

Then I found this image:

Perfection! Most of my house is in soft blues and greens with pops of color… and I think gray walls are just what I was looking for.

This bright room combines an awesome gray PLUS white board and batten!

More color inspiration… gray walls, white board and batten, plus soft greens and blues.

And finally this great gray hallway and gallery wall from Young House Love…

After all that… I finally figured out that I would LOVE to have soft gray walls with built-in bookcases and a window seat for my bedroom. Possibly even board and batten, depending on the cost. I’m a very visual person so it helped to see what different people/designers have done with the same basic concepts… and in those photos find even more inspiration for other things I might what to do or add to the space!

Now I just need to design my built-ins…

So have you tried Pinterest yet?? (If you’re signed up, please tell me! I’d love to follow you!) What is your favorite use for it?
