Every winter the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Club of Canada hosts a “Toller Walk.” Toller owners from all over BC, plus a few of us from the states, gather at a park for a big “play date.”
Back in December we had a field day. It was cold. I went out with my colleague and a handful of other people from different organizations, etc to check out a possible route for rebuilding a road that was washed out along the Dosewallips River.
I took some GPS points… and of course pictures! Partly to document the washout and other areas at-risk, and partly just for my own enjoyment. (Ok, mostly for my own enjoyment, but it’s a bonus that they’re useful to the project, too.)
This is Case Creek. It has a sediment issue that causes the culvert under the road to get full of gravel and then ruins the road. We had to park our rig on one side and then take turns in the Jeep (with 4WD) to continue down to where we would be hiking the road route.
Some people have reoccurring dreams of being without clothes during class presentations or in the middle of large crowds.
I’ve never had one of those dreams… at least that I can recall.
My reoccurring dream-theme doesn’t involve lack of clothing in a class/crowd setting… instead I can’t even find the class at all. I can’t remember my schedule and/or where my class is held.
Sometimes I have to fight through crowds of students to peek into classrooms in the hopes I might recognize someone.
Other times I scramble to find a computer to look up my schedule and the classrooms.
Then I get lost in a maze of crazy old buildings with hallways that don’t make any sense. Like the shifting staircases in Harry Potter.
Sometimes I’m back in high school, other times college.
The frantic panic is always the same. Read the rest of this entry »

I decided that it was time to start the Simple Daybed from Knock Off Wood.
It’s the next “big” change for my office-ish room and I just couldn’t wait any longer.
Last Saturday I went out with my mom to buy the lumber… and I’m glad she was with me! There were too many choices and I was quickly overwhelmed trying to figure out what would be the best/cheapest wood to buy. Once I calmed down we were able to pick through the lumber to find the straightest and smoothest boards we could.
Saturday afternoon my dad showed me how to use some of his power tools and between the two of us we got most of the lumber cut down to size. I let him use the ripping thing. It made him too nervous for me to use it since that’s what sliced his thumb last year. He cut the 1×12’s down to 1×6’s and 1×3’s. (1×12’s were slightly cheaper than buying two 1×6’s.) I cut the lengths for the rails, spacers, headers, footers, and other things… and I only made one mistake.
I hope.
